AMA Background

Abi and her family moved to Somerset in 2005 following the birth of their first son, returning to the countryside and area where she grew up. After allowing some time to settle into the area while working for a Bath based architect Abi set up her own design practice Abi McGillivray Architecture in 2006.

Abi studied architecture at Edinburgh University, and after graduating in 1997, moved to London where she worked for leading architecture companies Arup Associates and Marks Barfield Architects (creators of the London Eye). In London, Abi worked in a wide range of design fields from commercial development and retail, to leisure and education projects. At Arup she gained extensive experience in sports architecture and worked on many projects from Manchester Commonwealth Games Stadium to small scale sport facilities and pavilion design.

At Marks Barfield, Abi led the design team responsible for all education, housing and on going London Eye projects. Projects included an IT and library extension to a local primary school, DfES Exemplar Primary School Design and the refurbishment of the London Eye ticket hall.
